RISE: Exploring Possibilities for Global Research on Climate Change and Health

“RISE: Exploring Possibilities for Global Research on Climate Change and Health,” co-sponsored by IRIS NRC, gathered students from multiple academic disciplines across campus to explore issues through a global lens. Speakers addressed the key intersections between climate change and health, with presentations focusing on topics such as heat wave impact on vulnerable populations and the effects of floods on women’s reproductive health in Malawi. Speakers included Julie Ober Aleen, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology; Claire Wendland, professor and chair in the Department of Anthropology; and Roberto Abadie, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology. The speakers inspired attendees to consider the profound implications of climate change on global health and underscored the importance of interdisciplinary research.
