IRIS is pleased to share that two UW-Madison undergraduate students affiliated with our international & regional studies programs have been awarded the 2019-2020 Tommy G. Thompson Leadership Scholarship: Tierney Hall and Michael Sauer. Tierney Hall is an International Studies Major also pursuing a Middle East Studies Certificate and Michael Sauer, a Political Science & Economics major, is pursuing both an East Asian Studies Certificate and a South Asian Studies Certificate.
The Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership offers a scholarship award of $2,300 to undergraduates who have shown public leadership in their lives in a way that reflects the general legacy of Governor Tommy G. Thompson.
Tierney Hall states, “I feel fortunate to have had opportunities to develop my own leadership skills while on campus …. real success comes from bringing people of varied talents and backgrounds together to solve a problem for which all are passionate.”
Michael Sauer states, “I’ve made servant leadership our North Star to strengthen our community and common cause. Bringing together a diverse set of individuals, perspectives, and interests has steeped me in the great spirit of Governor Thompson, who brought out the best in Wisconsin by bringing out the best in others.”
Congratulations to Tierney and Michael!
To those interested, applications for the 2020-2021 scholarship through the UW-Madison are being accepted until October 26. 2020 via the WiSH hub.
