The updated Fulbright U.S. Scholar Catalog of Awards for the 2024-2025 competition is available online. Potential applicants can view a list of upcoming webinars and archive of past programs @ https://fulbrightscholars.org/events/webinars.
For the 2024-2025 FSP competition, awards available to UW-Madison scholars included:
- Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program – offers ~400 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. Subcategories of note within this group of awards include the Global Scholar Award, the Public Policy Fellowship, and the Arctic and Amazonia initiatives.
- Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Awards – These awards are viewed as the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Awards are open to scholars who have more than seven years of experience in their discipline or area of expertise, though some awards may further restrict eligibility. Distinguished Scholars are expected to actively engage host institutions in a spirit of promoting mutual understanding and sharing knowledge. - Fulbright Postdoctoral Awards – Postdoctoral Awards provide recently graduated scholars an opportunity to conduct research and receive professional training abroad. Awards may involve limited teaching. Postdocs are open to scholars who will have received a doctoral degree (Ph.D., J.D., M.D., Ed.D., etc.) within five years of the fellowship start date. Degree conferment before the start of the award is mandatory. Institutional affiliation in the U.S. is not required. - Fulbright International Education Administrator Awards – These awards provide international education professionals and senior higher education officials an opportunity to engage in a two-week intensive seminars to learn about the host country’s education system and establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues.
Applicants apply directly to the program; there is no campus component of any of the competitions though we encourage UW-Madison faculty and staff interested in applying to reach out to Mark Lilleleht, the UW-Madison’s Fulbright Coordinator and campus Fulbright Scholar Liaison. Mark is happy to assist those exploring options and considering putting together an application.
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs also administers the Fulbright Specialist Program which “sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.”
